Old kitchen sink P-Trap - how to remove?
Hi! I have a clogged kitchen sink in my apartment that hasn't responded to drain cleaners, plumbing, enzymes, etc. It's an old house, old sink, old iron pipes. I rent, so I'm not going to take the whole thing out and replace it with PVC.

There's lots of advice online about removing the p-trap and cleaning it. I want to do this but here's my problem (or maybe stupid question): the slip nuts are completely round, so I can't get a grip on them when I use a slip nut wrench. There are no little "spokes" or spots for gripping the surface. I tighten the wrench and it just slips, and scratches the iron on the pipes. Is brute force the answer? What do I need to do?

    Thanks!

A pipe wrench, brute force, and a replacement p-trap at the ready.

Bandages for scraped knuckles are also advised.

Actually, uploading a picture would also be very helpful.

P-trap GAP - p-trap too low to meet sink drain extension [ 13 Answers ]

I just took an old crane drexel sink off the wall and replaced it for the time being ( I want to fix the older sink) with a cheap vanity/sink set. All that was easy enough, but now to my chagrin I can't finish the job. The p trap is too low, the extension pipe from the sink doesn't go all...

Bathroom sink drain trap [ 1 Answers ]

I've installed a new bathroom vanity. The drain line, which comes through the floor, not the wall, is in the exact center of the vanity; the drain from the sink is likewise centered. How do I install a trap given the two pipe are centered exactly above one another and are not offset? Do I even...
