We've only been dating around 3 months, he says he loves me first, and now he is saying that he loves me, but has been hurt so badly before (ex wife cheated while in iraq, got pregnant with his bff) and he can't figure out why. He doesn't want to break up, but doesn't want to be selfish either so he's left it up to me to decide. I love this guy, and I'm willing to take the risk, but would like other opinions because I'm going crazy thinking about it.

He's basically saying "I still love my ex, I haven't gotten over her or what she did, I don't want to be alone, but I do feel guilty keeping you around only so I don't have to be alone. I'm hoping that you love me enough to keep me company, but I'll never feel the same way about you. If it's your decision though, you can't blame me when it ends".

So the question is, are you willing to stick around when it's more then likely that he'll never feel about you the way you feel about him?

What makes you think this still hurting puppy is ready for a serious adult relationship? That's why he threw the ball in your court to make a decision. To relieve him of guilt, and responsibility for hurting you in the future.

I hope you decide to protect yourself, as he needs to properly heal... without you.
