Your doctor knows you and your health history best. As a RN, I will give you the same advice as your doctor.
Be sure to test using first morning urine and read the test within the allotted time. If it is negative, wait a week to see if your period comes. If not, test again.
In the meantime, take care of yourself as if you are pregnant. Eat healthy, get plenty of rest, avoid tobacco and alcohol. Also, if you are not already, you can get prenatal/antenatal vitamins over-the-counter, be sure to take those during your childbearing years to avoid birth defects such as spina bifida.
