I have a Hunter (cordless) ceiling fan and need help with the wiring.
I have a Hunter (cordless) ceiling fan. We had a dimmer on the wall to control both the fan and the lights. I took this off to put on a regular light switch. The wires coming from the wall is a red wire, a black wire and a ground (copper). When we had the dimmer, the switch had two black wires and a green. They were hooked up as follows: red to black, black to black and green to ground. When I put the new switch on, I connected the red to the red, the black to the black and the green to the ground. The light works on the fan but there is no power with the fan. What am I doing wrong?

I think you mean it has a remote, it is not cordless but that would be cool. Help me understand, only one dimmer for both units right? Is the dimmer a stepped dimmer or is it a twist knob with no steps, dimmers for fans must be stepped.

Yes, remote, not cordless. The new switch is a step dimmer.

If the Fan has no pull chains, you may not be able to use a regular switch.
Ballenger, what do you mean, "dimmers for fans MUST be stepped"?

Strat, read step #2 Ceiling fan remote controls, remote kits, speed controls, dimmer switches and more - at Ceiling Fans 'N More can not use a rheostat type dimmer made for incandescent bulbs, has to be stepped.

Didn't read step 2 yet, but since this is remote controlled, it is only stepped.
For a second I thought you were saying Fans only have stepped controls for speed. My mistake.
