    F1 - CPT - Taxation Questions and form 3903
    Hi everyone,
I worked on CPT from Feb 2010 to 20th December 2010 - and then later my OPT started. I am now filing my tax return. I have a few questions related to it

1- I moved into a new apartment and got a car back in May 2010 - is there anything I can claim as deduction? - I am even unsure if I can file itemized tax deduction. I Paid all the taxes for car and county but I am unsure how it works

    2- Am I suppose to file 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ? -
3- I am from Pakistan and came in 2009 and completed my masters in Dec 2010 - Is there any treaty I qualify for?

    Thanks,

    1) The purchase of the car has no tax consequences. It did in 2009, but not 2010.

    2) Either form is okay if you do not claim moving costs. If you can claim moving costs (Form 3903), you must file Form 1040NR.

    3) U.S.-Pakistan Tax Treaty. I believe you get a $5,000 treaty exemption as a student.
