How do I run 4 MC wires through a stud?
I am running 4 new circuits and I am using MC wire as this is a commercial space and the building inspector requires MC. I am very good with electrical but had a thought whether this is allowed:
Can I take a notch in each of the studs in the wall (11 foot wall) to fit the 4 wires? Or do I need to drill holes in the center of the studs? If Holes how many 4 - one each or can I combine wires into 2 or even 1 larger hole?

BTW the wires I am running are 2- 12/3, 1-12/2 and 1-6/3 (for a commercial oven)

    Thanks

You can check with your local building inspector, I believe notching will not be acceptable.

All electricians do is drill one hole for each cable, spaced a few inches from each so not to compromise the strength of the stud.

The cable needs to be at least 1.25 inch away from the nailing surface(s) of the framining member. If drywall will be on both sides, does not leave much room.

Protective nail plates may be needed to prevent any nails or screws from being driven into the cables.

Drilling a hole in the center is much better/stronger then notching.
