Lg fridge gn-205sqa is hot on outside of cabinet, technician said it was 43 degrees
Lg fridge gn-205sqa is hot on exterior cabinet. Technician said it was 43 degrees, but LG tech said it was normal and they will not do anything about it. It is just 2 years old and 23 days out of warranty.

Refrigerator manufacturers route the condenser lines around the freezer door and the outside of the cabinet to prevent icing. It is normal for it to be warm, but if it is too warm it is due to dust clogging the condenser coils and fan. You need to unplug refrigerator and remove access panel on rear to get at coils, but be careful to replace this EXACTLY as you found it to make sure air is properly routed through the coils. Make sure fan turns freely, also, if there is one as I would expect it to have if coils are under the refrigerator. Clean coils thoroughly; it is best to wash them with soap and water and a brush. Clean fan blades also, but keep water out of motor. You may want to remove fan blade and clean it. This keeps it from gathering dust again very fast. When all is very clean put it back like it was and plug it in. It will cool faster and more economically. DrTom4444

Thank you for your reply. However my fridge does not have coils on the rear. They are all enclosed and the cabinet only has a small hole at the back (covered) into which apparently they pump the insulation material.

I did not mean that the coils were necessarily on the rear of the refrigerator. Most of the coils are usually in the bottom compartment of the refrigerator with a fan pulling air through them. You have to unplug the refrigerator and remove cover on bottom rear of refrigerator to see fan and coils. If you do this you will see the coils which need to be cleaned twice a year. You can blow them out to remove the dust that builds up and causes the refrigerator to burn up a compresser if not cleaned (when it does this you are looking at $500 to repair it). Cleaning these coils is very important because heat is lost through these coils and when clogged refrigerator will cease working. DrTom4444
