    About abnormal pap smear
'hi I'm 22 yr old. Last Friday I had a pap smear done and they just told me that it came back abnormal, does that mean I have a type of HPV, or could it be something else going on? My past pap smears have always been normal. I had a baby 14 months ago, I am merry so I only have one partner.and he has been tested for any stds and negative he is clean. So I need an answer because I'm freaking out. '

In all seriousness... your doctor should have explained this all to you based on what they found... and if it warranted further testing. I would call them up and talk to them. Abnormal can mean a lot of things.

Abnormal can mean anything from a mild infection to something more serious.

Call your doctor and ask him/her what's the next step, ask do you need treatment, if so, what kind.

Hello. Yes I already went to my doctor again yesterday... and what he told me wasn't something I wanted to hear. ;(
But my pap smear came abnormal because he said I have a level 3! That means it can become cancer.. sucks. He said I had had hpv in the past but I didn't know because they never told me because he was very low but it didn't cure itself so I guess it advanced.. last year I had 2 pap smears and they came out normal like I didn't have nothing.. so now this came up... so now how were they not able to detect this sooner? Now what are they going to do? He told me he was going to call me in 10 days that he didn't see any cancer yet so that he was going to treat me and he would make sure it didn't go to cancer... im very sad, and dissapointed at myself.. this sucks. And thanks for answering back, I really appreciated.

I am not a medical professional in any way, this advice is purely on my own experience.

I get smears every 6 months, due to the high incidents of cervical cancer in my family.

I have been at stage 3 and received laser treatment for precancerous cells, with success.

Below is a site I found very useful for gathering information on the subject, there's lot of reading involved, BUT, the more informed to you the better.

I'm also going to contact a member here who is a health expert,a nurse and who also has been through this experience.

Treatment of precancerous cells of the cervix

I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks so much for getting back at me...
Knowing that its curable or treatable makes me feel a little better...
And another question, if you know the anwer... would this affect me in any way if I want to get pregnant again?
My doctor said no that I don't have to worry about that and that my husband don't have to worry either that this is just something with me, that it don't have to do with him getting anything from me, and that I can get pregnant again.. have you experience that or what do you know about it..
From the botton of my heart thank you sooooo much for taking the time to anwer me.. I honestly never knew I could talk to people online.. its cool. I like it..

I did have a baby after treatment, trust your doctor.

It is scary, the plus side is your dealing with it, and that's brave.

Ask the questions, do some research, find out what you can, it really will help towards taking the fear away.

Your doctor has said he's going to do everything he can.

After my treatment I bled for quite a few weeks while my cervix healed, but I had no pain, during the treatment or afterwards, I was awake and aware of what was happening, the doctor spoke to me throughout the whole process and I asked questions.

What I did do before the treatment was I had my legs waxed and I did my toe nails, and at least I felt a little more comfortable with my bits on display!

Other people will post, keep an eye on your thread.

    Welcome to the site.

Hi.. im back with my results.. I got them last week and I was real sad.. me next step is that I'm going to have to get a LEEP prosedure done :(, today a doctors assistant call me and sais that my appt for it its next week the 14th.. and a asked her if it was going to be with local anesthesia or could they put me all to sleep because I don't want to see or feel anything, so she said they do just the local one no full.. and I don't want that, I'm so scare and I think I can have a panic attack :(.. I can't deal with pain, I just cant... so I told her I wanted to talk to mu doc and she said tomorrow at 830am so yeah I just hope he tells me he can sleep me all.. if not ima tell him to recommend me to another doc.. but the thing is that he has been my only doc and I really trust him.. I just don't know what to do..

This advice is only from my own experience.

The biggest fear is not knowing what's going to happen, I actually did not feel the treatment being done and I was able to look at the screen above my head and see what was happening, ( you don't have to do that!).. relaxing is a big part of it, counting back from 100 or reciting a song or poem in your head will help.

The treatment is very quick, the local anesthesia does pinch, but its over very quickly.

My advice is stick with the doctor you trust.

All going well, once its over you will be able to get dressed, walk, go home and get on with your day.

You have had a baby, this procedure is going to be a walk in the park compared to that, taking slow deep breaths will help.

You may be able to take a iPod in with you, ask if you can listen to it while they do the procedure, even with one ear piece in so you can still take instruction from the doctor,it may be just enough distraction to get you through it.
