    Abnormal pap smear and HPV.
In April 2006 I went to the doctor and my pap smear came back abnormal. I was sent to a specialist in September 2006 and had my cervix frozen to remove the abnormal cells. Since then I went back every 6 months to follow up on my pap smears and every time I was clean. My last visit was in September 2008 and the doctor said my cervix looked "almost perfect". I got my pap and left. He called me back today and told me that my pap came back abnormal again and that I have to go back in 6 months for another check up. I'm pretty sure I have HPV and that's what was causing my abnormal pap smears in the first place. I don't get why it would be clear for almost two years and then suddenly come back. Does anyone know what could be wrong with me?

If you had hpv your dr should have said something to you by now. I know people with hpv and you are correct that she has to be super careful for abnormal cells, but the truth is that I know three more people who have had to get frozen or burned and there's nothing wrong with them, not to mention I myself have had an abnormal pap and nothing ever came of it except a biopsy. So basically- everyone's just different and sometimes there are no explanations. But if you really think you have hpv you should ask your dr because some hpv viruses are curable and some can cause cancer. I'll keep you in my prayers and good luck to you.

Thank you for replying. I asked my doctor if HPV could have caused this and he said it's possible but there's no way of knowing if I have HPV. My ex-boyfriend had genital warts, I never had any. He cheated on me many times so I'm assuming he got them from one of the girls he cheated with. I know I don't have them and I have never had any warts, just abnormal paps. I'm hoping that the reason for the abnormal pap is nothing serious but I'm worried. Do you know what will happen if I go back in six months and my abnormal cells have returned? Is it normal for the abnormal cells to reoccur two years after treatment? I'm going to try and speak with my doctor tomorrow but this is worrying me so much. I'm going to be worrying all night :(

Does anyone know if this is normal? I'm so worried about what's going to happen to me. I was o.k for two years after my treatment but now it suddenly came back? Is it possible that it could be nothing serious and maybe it can clear up on it's own?
