    Ceiling Fan and Light
Ceiing fan and light are powered by a dimmer switch. Dimmer will operate both at the same time. Fan has it's own 3 way chain and light has on/off chain. Fan motor hums when light is on and doesn't seem to work properly. Is there a wiring problem? The switch has two wires plus a ground. Can I correct this and if so how?

A fan should not be powered through a dimmer switch. There are switches that can control the fan speed but a regular dimmer switch will ruin a fan motor. What are the wires in the ceiling box where the fan is mounted.

I'll have to drop the fan down to se the wires. However, I'm 99% sure it has three wires, one black wire, and one white wire, plus a green ground wire. I guess I should change the switch to a toggel and operate the light and fan using the chains. For now, I will get rid of the dimmer switch pronto. Let me know if there is something else I could do. Thanks for the advise about the dimmer switch.
