    Partial facial paralysis
I have a friend who has had this condition twice in 5 months, on the left side only. This time his throat is also very sore, but only on the left side. The first lasted about two weeks and then went away. The Doctors are now concerned.
He went for tests and blood is good, brain scan was good.
They attempted to do a spinal tap and tried twice but couldn't get any fluid, he said it was so painful that he passed out for 5 minutes the first time they tried it.
He is going back Thursday to try again.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any ideas?

No not yet, but I hear Shingles is quite painful and the only pain he said he had (besides the spinal tap) was the left side of his throat.

That's what I was thinking but I heard that it usually doesn't re-occur or at least not that quickly.

Bell's Palsy is the most common cause for unilateral facial palsy. A listing of symptoms can be found here.

As you will note the only contraindicator is recurrence.
