Why is the engine light showing on my 2006 Toyota Corolla?
Our 2006 Toyota Corolla was recalled because of a computer that needed replacment. The signal that the computer was damaged was supposed to be the appearance of the engine light.

Almost to the day that we were notified of the recall, our engine light did appear, so we took the car to have the computer replaced.

After the replacement, the engine light was still on, but the car dealer said that it was because the mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced. A mouse had nested in the air filter.

I vacuumed the air filter box, replaced the air filter, and cleaned the air-flow sensor, and the light went out for a while. Then it reappeared, so I cleaned the filter again, but the light did not go out this time.

Do you think the problem is actually the sensor? The car seems to be running fine, and I wonder if the engine light just needs to be re-set.

Attach a code reader to the under dash data link connector and see what code was thrown. A mouse could easily damage a delicate MAF Sensor.

Woodfin, there is a back order here at the dealership for the intake manifold gasket.
It appears they are made of rubber and they shrink in cold weather causing a vacuum leak.
I have several people here waiting on one for the same problem you're having. They ALSO had the ECM replaced already.
