    Problems between roommates?
Hi, I have a huge problem with my roommate. We have a 3 bed apartment in Boston, MA. The official lease is under my name and my husband's name. Recently we allowed another person to share an apartment with us. He pays his rent carefully, every month, but he also creates very uncomfortable conditions to live, For example, he doesn't clean the shared areas, never takes the garbage out, which leads to unsanitary and increasing amount of roaches, etc. Very often he forgets to flash the toilet after using that. So, for me as for married woman it is not a pleasure to see that all the time. After many conversations we could not find any solution of our problem. So we asked him to leave. Now he doesn't want to leave and require us to give him a 30 days notice for moving out. So my question is, do I have a right to give him such kind of notices and what should I do if he would not leave the apartment after that 30 days period. Please, help me!

You have the right to go to court and have him evicted if he fails to leave after the 30-day notice period is over.

Do you have a lease with him? If not he is a month to month tenant and you do have to given him 30 days written notice to vacate. If he doesn't vacate then you have to go to court for an eviction order.
