This is normally done at birth. In the hospital the mother is brought a form to fill in with details about the family and naming. The hospital then fills in the vital statistics about the child.

This is a legal issue so was moved from the Children forum. If you tell us the background we may be able to help further.

The father was not on the birth certificate and you were married?

    Father on birth certificate
I was married when my child was born but my child wasn't for my husband and now that I get divorce I want to know how to put the right father name on the birth certificate. No father is listed on the birth certificate.

Are you kidding me? You treat children like chattle (property)Creating a human life is easy and most often fun... but you seem to take the relationships around your child very flipantly... still married and made this one for the next guy... OOPs got to correct the paperwork... well I got news for you... If you have "registered" your child with the state (kinda like registering a motor vehicle) the state is the registered owner... and based on your view of the importance (or should I say lack thereof)of your relationship status it sounds to me like you will look upon this child in the same way... maybe they are better of in state care. This is not some pet or game to be played, get serious or you will raise up another self centered individual.

First I have merged your threads. Please do not keep starting new threads for the same question.

When a child is born to a married couple the husband is automatically the legal father. A challenge to that paternity has to be mounted shortly after the birth.

You need to consult an attorney to see if you can still challenge paternity.
