    Wife depedant for 6 months
    My wife is on L2 visa.. She was a depedant for 6 months.. post which she started working! How do I claim the depedant category for 6 months tax this year?

    You do NOT want to claim her as a dependent; youwant to file JOINTLY with her.

    Filing jointly gets you a $11,400 standard deduction plus TWO $3,650 personal exemptions, which results in the forst $18,700 being tax-exempt.
