Dependent with ITIN; can we use turbo tax ?
    Hi,

I've got a couple of questions. I am here on H1B Visa and my spouse is a dependent on H4 Visa. I have a valid SSN and my wife has an ITIN. When we file our taxes jointly through Turbo Tax or H&R Block Online

    1) can we e-file using software like Turbo-tax or H&R Block?

    2) If yes, where do I enter my wife's ITIN information. As I only see space provided for SSN. Can I file our tax returns online or does it have to be through mail only ?

I doubt if any software will let you efile the tax return. You need to mail the tax return.

    I beg to differ!

I have efiled dozens of returns with the spouse and children having ITINs over the past ten years.

TaxAct has no problem recognizing ITINs as valid tax ID numbers, so I doubt that TurboTax or TaxCut (the tax software owned by H&R Block) will have any problem either.

Now, if you are APPLYING for an ITIN with Form W-7, THAT return (and the Form W-7) must be mailed to the ITIN Processing Center in Austin, Texas.
