    Cannot potty train our Chihuahua
    Hello,
We have the cutest little long hair teacup chihuahua that we got last April 2010. This is my wife's dog and she works with her very hard. She decided she wanted to have the dog go on the potty pads. My wife is with the dog 24/7. She loves this dog to death she has tried rewarding the puppy whenever she uses the pad, however, when we let her out of the family room any rung laying on the floor is a potty pad. We have scolded her and then put her on her potty pad and she just goes out and does it again. She doesn't seem to sniff around before she goes she just drops and goes. We are at wits end about how to get her to only go on the pads. If we confine her to the family room (my wife spends most of her time there) she is with my wife or can see my wife in the breakfast nook. She will use the potty pad in the corner in the family room. If my wife lets her out to chase the other dog around she pee's where ever there is a rug and will even dump a doody. Please help us correct this behavior.
    Thanks,

    Hi
I have heard so many people complain about potty training their pup and it can get frustrating but you have to be patient. I also use the pads for my puppy and training him was pretty easy. I suggest you figure out you dog's movement before he poos or pees does he/she hunch over or tuck in it's tail once you indicate or realize your puppy is peeing immediately pick it up and bring it to the area you want him or her to pee then say yes or good and once you do that a couple of times you should be fine if not I would be happy to give you more advice.

I can't offer any potty training advice, as I am not knowledgeable. However, I did want to mention that I have a long hair chihuahua also and he does "tinkle," or "dribble," when he is excited, or happy. He can't help it, and it usually just a drop,or two. He is a very good little boy and he always becomes immediately concerned over it. But whenever he gets attention from someone he adores,or just something plain exciting it "happens." We tell him it is okay and wipe it up, usually he will lick either himself,or where it happened before we can. So I am not sure if that helps you to know. I don't have any experience with the breed, but do recall that many chihuahua's I noticed were somewhat high strung. NOT our little guy, he is sweet, calm, and adorable. Our family jokes that he is "perfect." Never before have I seen such a well behaved dog so eager to please. He even looks at us apologetically when he accidentally dribbles. Anyway, we know it is obviously uncontrolable and have never worried about it. I know your dog's isn't, but anyway, I thought I would share about our pup since it is the same breed. Perhaps the information could help?
