I feel collection agencies are very nasty
I am living Toronto of Canada. Today I was noticed my new credit card application of one of US bank was denied. They said there're some problem on my credit inspection.

Then I went to Equifax to get a record me. I found there's 648.00 amout from Rogers and CBCL ONT is collection agency. The history is starting from 2004/July. I trying to find if I missed paying Roger's cable and internet fee, but I can't get the statement. The statement was losted probably because I moved at that time. I try to get statement for 2004/July from Rogers, but they said they don't keep it that long time(it's true?). I tried to contact with CBCL, but nobody response my phone, I left the message and still wait for them.

How and who can I pay back the money?
    How get the valid documents?

    Appreciate any suggestions and advice.

My advice do not pay back the money. When you get the equifax report it is accompanied by a form. So if you have an disagreement or your unsure about if you owe anything at all. You need to do your best to contact them. Write out on the form what you think is an error. If Rogers does not even have a record of it. I do not even think it should be there.
Send back the filled out form to Equifax. I think they will investigate or even get intouch with the appropriate people. If they find that it is an error. They will correct it.

I personally had somebody collection agency call me up 3 years after I moved. A family member put a phone in there house with my name. They owed lots of money on this bill. They told me I had no choice to pay. Lawyer a friend of the family said if you did not sign anything your not responsible do not pay anything. That is already after I paid 50 dollars. Never paid another cent and never heard nothing since then.

Do you have a lawyer? Not that you need one, but I would continue trying to get intouch with rogers and the CBCL.

    Hope this helps a little.

Hi, Jesushelper76, thanks for your advice that give me more confidence.

After keep calling Rogers more than five times, few of them like to help me to find 2004 bill statement, they also give me a phone number for CBCL contact number which is not exist on the internet. Once I call the CBCL, they give me the answer. Rogers made a mistake about my name with the other guys, one guy have wireless service but never pay back, his name is only defferent with my middel name. I don't know how Roger work, but obviously they scrimshanked on this case. I'll call Rogers fraud office tomorrow. I think I am OK now:-).

Excellent, I am glad to hear everything is working out. Do not forget you need to contact Equifax so they can correct this error on your credit report.

It sounds to me like you got good help in resolving your complaint from the collection agency. So why the subject? There are plenty ofcollection agencies that are kind of nasty. But you have to give them some slack since their business is dealing with people trying to skip out on their valid debts.

Many agencies are reputable and try to collect without resorting to nastiness.
