    There are four stages.

The latend and active phases make up the first stage of labor.

The latent phase consists of the cervix dilating from 1cm to 3-5 cm.

The active phase is when the cervix dilates from 5cm - 10cm (or complete dilitation).

The second stage ends with the delivery of the baby.

The third stage ends with delivery of the placents.

The fourth stage is the approximate hour after delivery during the recovery period.
