Apartment in NYC - lease question
Our lease is up for renewal on Jan 1. We sent signed lease to landlord and have not received a copy back at this time. In the meantime we have found a new apartment that we can move into on Jan 1, 2011. Can we decline the lease that we sent back as it would not be in effect until Jan giving LL more than 30 days notice. I know he would be happy about us leaving as he is trying to de-regulate the building. Would we still be entitled to get our deposit back.

Part to the deposit - if the security deposit is gaining yearly interest (15 years now) is each year added on to what I get back> How does that work?
