Can a bad toilet ring cause a leak?
My guest bath room is off the hallway and water has come through the base boards onto my family room, water damage on base boards and wood flooring. Can the leak be from the wax ring? There was a smell in the house when I got home last night and I felt a little water on the bottom of the toilet. Would I need to replace the whole toilet? Or just the ring? There had to have been a small leak for at least there last 2 weeks but you couldn't see water damage till last night. It didn't appear as a water leak at that time.I did turn the water off from the toilet. There is a odor in the house

Let's see where that leak comes from. Flush the toilet and wait for it to fill. Now take a wad of toilet paper and wipe the back of the tank and bowl. Did the TP show any moisture? If not then replace the wax ring. This might take care of the odor also, Good luck, Tom
