    Taxes will include:

    1. Sales tax, which varies depending what county in Long Island you're referring to. In Nassau County for example it's 8.625%

    2. Federal gas guzzler tax - if this is a new car, it is subject to this tax if its gas mileage is less than 22.5 MPG. The amount depends on the MPG of the particular model of car, so you should ask the dealer about this. The rates vary from $1000 for cars that get between 21.5 and 22.5 MPG to $7700 for cars with less than 12.5 MPG.

    3. Titling and registration fees - while not strictly speaking taxes, there are other fees that the state imposes to register the car. Again, ask the dealer.
