How to remove an earring from a bathroom sink drain pipe
Pipe is glued together or stuck, can't remove it. Is there another way to remove the earring besides taking the pipe apart? The earring is gold and diamond, is gold magnetic? Can I fish around with a magnet to try to snag it? Anything else I can do besides take the pipe apart? It appears to be glued at each joint, comes off the sink drain, but not enough so I can get to the earring. No water has been run through the pipe, it's still in there. Help!

Yes, gold is <Not> (typo) magnetic, however, there is a mechanical recovery tool that is long enough to get down into the drain trap. Then you push a button on the top and finger claws come out the bottom so you can snag and recover an item.

Ok, maybe my magnet isn't strong enough. What is this tool you speak of? Where may I acquire one?

Take a look at the big stores in your area. Lowe's, Home Depot see if they have it.

Or check on-line. The one I have is about 24" long. I haven't had to use it in years.

Gold is NON-MAGNETIC so forget the magnet. However the claw Don mentions may work. Two there options, please tell us what drain and type of pipe. Drains have traps and traps are almost never glued but can stick. You can also put a fishing treble hook on about 16" of verylight fishing line and go fishing

Thanks for the info, but what is this device called? Do I go to Home Depot and ask for a device that removes stuff from drains? I'm not being sarcastic, just would like to know what it's called.

I don't know the name of the tool. When it was issued to me it was listed as a part recovery tool.

Personally, I like the fish hook and line as a solution. It's quick and you probably have what you need at home. Paper clip on a string and such.
