    Depends on the wall or ceiling construction. Non combustible wall/ceiling setback not more than 1/4 inch, wood or other combustible construction, flush with the wall or ceiling. Use a box extender to bring them out. Gap between walls and box could allow sparks to get into the concealed wall or ceiling space.
