Try the Yellow Pages, if that exists there, ask the local code enforcement office for suggestions of contractors in that area, there must be some way of finding an electricial contractor in your area.

Thanks for the quick response.I did speak to several contractors and they want to complete the job with no assistance. My husband has done a lot of electrical work except he is not certified but very knowledgeable. Also,We are operating with a strict budget.

Then your probably limited to word of mouth to find someone that is qualified and willing to do a partial job.

The issue is insurance liability, who ever does the job will be responsible for all wiring, including the work done by someone not certified/licensed.

Unless someone has gone through the apporpriate training and apprenticeship, which usually takes 4-5 years, just being knowledgeable is not enough.

Strict budgets are fine, but need to be accurate to include the cost of electrical work to be done properly.

Check with your local code enforcement office to see if homeowners are allowed to do their own electrical work.

We did check with the local code and home owners are allowed to get the permit and complete their own electrical, we are prepared to be the assistant, hence we are asking for someone who is retired or maybe unemployed that is looking for some work.

As you indicated in your response, the work has to be accurate and to code, this is also our main concern.

    Cheers!

Have you tried asking 3 electrical contractors for a bid? Only then will you know if you can afford them or keep looking for someone "off the books." Retired and out of work electricians may not have insurance or bonding. My dad used to do this work after retiring as an electrician but stopped when he got involved in a law suit.
