    OPT Tax, ATL vs. NY
    Hi,

I would like to understand if there is any difference between taxes paid in New York compared to Atlanta. I will be on OPT shortly.

I believe that the OPT tax and Federal tax may be same everywhere but the State tax would differ.
Can anybody please shed some light on it, giving me some numbers if possible?
I have job offers from both these locations, and taxes may be an important factor for me to decide which one to accept.

    Thanks.

    Enig:

New York has a much higher state income tax. If you work in NY City or Yonkers, both cities have their own income tax.

In Atlanta, Georgia, the state income tax is $920 on the first $20,000 earned, and 6% of every dollar over $20,000, much lower than New York.

The federal income tax is the same everywhere in the United States.

E-mail me the salary levels for each location to [email protected] and I will do a comparative analysis.
