    TAX when on OPT
    Dear Tax expert,
I graduated in spring 2006 and currently Im working on OPT as a Full time programmer in a local company. Im the first Non-resident alien they have hired and don't know how much tax should be deducted from my income in such a scenario.. How should we proceed in such a case? Are there any publications(that have the tax slabs) that help in such a scenario? Are there any treaties that apply when Im on OPT?
    Thanks for the help..

Download IRS Pub 519 to begin with. They can also access the tax treaty (if any) with your home country. Both can be found at www.irs.gov.

It's likely you have to pay income taxes, but your should be exempt from Social Security and Medicare taxes.
