Arc fault breakers on a 2 wire circuit
The home wiring does not have a ground wire, can you install an AFCI breaker and use 3 wire outlets in the rooms?
I have been told that you can do this with a GFCI breaker as well

Not with an AFCI device, only with a GFI device, can you use 3 wire receptacles on a 2 wire circuit, and then label each 3 wire receptacle "No Equipment Ground".
