My shower started leaking from behind the wall...
When I replaced the diverter. The diverter wasn't working properly and I bought a complete kit for the brand of faucet I have. The leak only happens when the shower is run and leaves quite a puddle on my floor. Do you have any suggestions?

The diverter is a separate valve. It's a 3 piece faucet. The kit contained a new shower head that was installed at the same time as the diverter and stems for the hot and cold. Could it be the shower head? I don't have an access panel to check the plumbing behind the wall.

Most likely, it is the Shower Arm. It leaks where it screws into the 90 Ell in the wall... Do this: 1. Unscrew shower head and shower arm 2. Inspect threads on shower arm 3. Apply Teflon tape on shower arm 4. Screw it back into the wall (90ell). Do it slowly, feel the treads. Once it catches thread, crew it in as much as it goes by hand. Then use tool to give it one more turn. That should do. 5. Screw on shower head 6. Turn water ON and see if it still leaks Come back to tell us how you did... Back to you... Milo |

To avoid marring up the surface, the "tool" that I use to screw in shower arms is a small rod inserted inside the end of the shower arm. Insert the rod in the end of the piping, grasp the piping close to the wall and rotate the rod in a circular motion. The rod acts as an extension of the bent portion of the shower arm. The longer the extension the greater the leverage. The extension rod of a 1/4 socket set works great. |

I'm not all that sure it's the shower head. Pull the handle and chrome faceplate and turn the shower bon. If there's water coming down the raiser on top of the valve then The leak would be at the drop eared ell ,( see image)in the wall. **OR** I could be a bonnet packing nut leak from the nut on the diverter stem. (see image) But you're going to hafta locate the source of the leak and let us know what you find. Good luck, Tom |

It wasn't the shower head at all. I only replaced the head and not the bar it was attached to.When I took the handle off the diverter, the diverter turned in my hand. I tightened it and hasn't leaked so far! I'm hoping it was that simple. Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for all the help!
