Extract plastic toy from sewer line?
About 15 ft from a basement toilet there is a 3 inch round and about 1 inch thick plastic toy. It is lodged tightly in the old cast iron line. I used a power auger to try to push it through or break it up. Then I cakked a plumber thinking he could easily attach simething to the end of the snake which would either chew up the toy or catch it and bring it back. No such thing. He used a camera and confirmed the identity of the object. He says we have to use a mor eexpensive camera to locate it ($378) and then break up the concrete ($!! ). Seems to me that this is only plastic. Is there not a more creative solution?

If this were my call I'd take a Ridged K-60 Sewer machine. Sharpen the pointy end of a auger tip on my bench grinder and put some muscle into drilling into that plastic toy and hauling it back before I tore up my floor. Good luck, Tom

I looked upthe Ridgid K60 with anxouus anticipation but found that this is just a brand name for a type of power snake. All well. But do you have a recommendation for the type of head that would be best to attack this problem? My Home Depot rental place has only a few heads and the don't seem like they will be able to grab anything.

What type of head would you recommend? My Home dDepot rental does not seen to have a head which has any chance to get hold of this plastic. The plunber had even less variety of available heads.

Try a company that specializes in drain cleaning. We have one in our area (Roto Rooter) that cost about $175. They have cutters that would chop up the plastic.

1960s Plastic Mermaid Toy [ 1 Answers ]

In the early to mid-1960s I used to collect these little clear colored plastic mermaid figures. I don't remember if they came in a Cracker Jacks box or if I got them out of a gumball machine. They were solid colored and very detailed for such a little cheap toy. Does anyone remember these?:)
