Can I abandon a ceiling electrical box
I'm doing a remodel in a bathroom where I am overlaying the existing ceiling with a new layer of drywall. I have ceiling mounted light fixtures now that I will be abandoning. Do I need to get into the ceiling and remove the wires back to the next box or can I wire off and cover the box in place.

If "can I wire off ' means cap off with wire nuts I'd say yes but cap off at the previous box
