I had protected sex on August 1st. I took a free urine test at a clinic on Monday (a week after sex) & it came back negative. I think it was too early but my period is supposed to come today or in about two days (my last period was on July 13, so today would be CD 30). I bought a home EPT test yesterday & took one this morning, still came out negative. Was this still early? I'm confused, because my period seems to be late, but it might be too early to be testing. :/ Also, I have a REALLY bad cold/flu (severe sore throat, coughing, stuffy nose, body aches, high fever my face is even red, dizziness at first but it's almost gone now ). I took DayQuil & now I feel better but those couldn't have been signs of a pregnancy, right? Also, last week, around 2 days after sex, my lower stomach started cramping & my lower back also hurt a lot. It's usually like this a week before my period. Could this have been implantation cramps or too early for pregnancy signs ?

For the past few days, my right ovary hurted a lot too & still does. Is this a sign of my period coming? Also, I feel clear watery discharge gushing out of me ( sorry TMI ) so I keep checking to see if it's my period but no :( Is this also a sign of my period coming soon or a sign of pregnancy ? Today I went to the doctors because I felt itchy down there they told me I just have an infection/virus so they gave me antiobiotics & cream . I'm also hoping to take a blood test tomorrow .

Sorry this was a lot. I REALLY need some assurance & help at the moment. So basically my questions are:
1. Were the symptoms I got last week just PMS symptoms or could they have been implantation cramps?
2. Did I take an EPT test too early?
3. Are my severe flu-like symptoms an early sign of pregnancy?
4. Would it be too early to take a blood test tomorrow ( it would be 11 days after sex ) .
5. I keep having watery vaginal discharge gushing out . Is this a sign of a period coming? I heard that people who are pregnant have this as one of the symptoms?

Please help me. I just need some thoughts I'm worried sick :(

Someone else can answer the medical questions but if you think you might be pregnant, if you intend to have this baby, PLEASE don't take any medicines, including over-the-counter (such as Nyquil or Dayquil).

I realize you're frightened but I think you have to slow down, catch your breath, ask your Pharmacist which test is most reliable at this time.

No, I've never heard that severe flu-like symptoms are a sign of pregnancy BUT I always was nauseous from day #1.

I realize no "protection" is 100% but why are you so worried?

I'm really worried because I just can't get pregnant at this time. I leave the country next Wednesday for school. Also, I'm not feeling my period coming. My cramps have gone away (they're really mild right now) & the excessive amount of watery discharge is worrying me. Maybe I'm being too paranoid?

I hope you are paranoid but there's no "I just can't" when it comes to pregnancy.

You said you had protected sex... then why are you this worried ? Did you put the condom in too late, did you miss a pill?

I can't help you about the symptoms, but I agree, don't take any over the counter medicines yet, till you know for sure.

While pregnancy is always possible if you have sex, I think you may be worrying too much. Just to touch on a few of the things you mentioned and hopefully it will ease your mind a bit:

*testing a week after sex would be too early
*if your period is possibly due today or in a couple of days, how does that make you seem late?
*many of the cold/flu symptoms have little or nothing to do with pregnancy
*two days after sex would be too early for implantation... it normally is about 6-12 days, the earlier the better actually
*the cramping and lower back pain may have been from the recent sex, or perhaps due to you becoming ill. Since it was last week, and your period is due this week, that would make it the week before you period is due as you mentioned this sometimes happens to you.
*usually, the increased discharge women experience in early pregnancy is thicker and white as their body would be preparing to produce a mucous plug at the cervix of the uterus


Was a check done to determine you have an infection? Did they do a pregnancy test in the office? What sort of protection did you use? If birth control pills, be aware that is it often recommended to use an additional form birth control while taking the course of medicine.

Give it some time... see if your period is actually late, but at least a week, and then test again if necessary.
