TXV hard shut off on Carrier
I have a brand new Carrier 14 seer unit, 3.5 tons. Model No. 24ABC6. I have noticed that when the blower motor on the compressor side outside shuts down is make some clatter. Is this the TXV valve during a hard shut off? Just curious and checking to make sure there is nothing wrong with the outside unit.

The blower motor(condenser fan motor in the outside unit) has nothing to do with the hard shut off style of TXV used in your unit unless I missed something in the last 45 years in working on these units.

Clatter?? What does the clatter sound like? There are many noises a unit can make. Can you give a better description? Did you check for a loose fan blade or other fasteners?

Actually it is the scroll compressor rattling when it shuts down. Is this a commone noise for this type of compressor?

If it is a Scroll unit I suggest you contact the company/contractor that sold and installed the unit. While Scroll units do have a sound they make which is a bit different that a piston drive or rotary without being able to hear the sound I do not want to give you any advise since I cannot actually hear the noise and see the operating pressures/current draw during the shut down process. When it comes to noise complaints there is a lot that needs to be looked at and heard. Sorry.

No problem. I found out that this is a normal sound for a scroll and is not something to be concerned about. Thanks.
