    I have 8 volts on a nuetral wire at a recepical is this within tolerances?
    I have 8 volts on a neutral wire at one of my recepticals is this within tolerances

    I will assume you measured 8 volts between neutral and equipment ground.

    No, we look for a maximum of 3 volts.

    Some equipment will not want more than 1/2 to one volt.

    This can be tricky to locate, could be a ground loop, could be a loose or corroded connection.

    Begin checking at the source of the circuit.
