    There is a humming sound coming from my central air conditioner
    A humming sound that happens from time to time as if the motor is stalling . Also a faint burning smell coming from one of the ducts

    Well, that would tell me that the air conditioner would have to be serviced, repaired, if you want to stay cool wherever you are. Just call a service man.
