    New laminate flooring - edges?
    Hi,

I'm having new laminate flloring installed. I didn't think that you should see slightly lifted adges at nearly all the plank to plank interfaces, but I see this at many spots. It's as if the laminate has buckled up just a little when they installed the pieces. I think that you have to put each piece at an upward angle with respect to the adjoining piece, so that, with non-beveled edges, the top laminate layer hits first and probably buckles up a bit. I don't really like the look - it "screams", hey - I'm a laminate floor - because of the slightly lifted lines along joints. Is this normal? Do any of you see this in your floors? Will it settle down with walking over it? I called the strore owner and he's having the manufacturer's rep come to check this out. They stopped installation to have it checked out. The installer guys said that it did not look right. Please give me comments!

    Thanks,
    Tom

It sounds like the flooring is "cupped". How long did the installer let the floor acclimate before installing? Even though its laminate, some manufactures want the floor to acclimate to your house's temp/humidity a few days before installing.

Was the installer using "beat blocks" the help the floor lock in? Sometimes too much stress against edge on edge can possibly cause this.

See what the manufacture rep has to say. If it's their flooring they should make good on replacement. Most do.

Thanks for the reply! First of all, he didn't let the flooring equilibrate at all. Now the same place did some real hardwood flooring for me and they let it stay in the house for a few days at least. This time, they brough it in and installed immediately. I don't know how they installed,i.e. whether they used beat blocks or not. I am having a mfg rep come to check it out. Thanks again!
