Okay well starving yourself is certainly no way to go.
Like Josh mentioned you do need to exercise! However you don't need to do any weight training, what you do need to do is cardio and tons of it. If you have a gym membership great, they have tons of machines that focus on cardio workouts, if not don't worry. You can still: jog, run, walk, do jumping jacks [may seem funny but try doing 100, you'll feel the burn], lunges, burpees... etc. Here is a link to a few sites that give you some GREAT cardio work outs:

I would also like to point out that what you EAT will contribute to how much you lose.
The main thing is to eat fresh foods, foods that are closest to their original state, like : baked potato not french fries.
You need to be eating MORE veggies, MORE fruits and less sugars, salts, processed foods [like chicken nuggets, hot dogs... etc], it would be better to cut it all out completely until the event your attending [you would also get better results in doing so].
As for your meats, eat only salmon and skinless chicken breast. If you have a BBQ wrap them in tin foil with fresh herbs [no already prepared sauces added to them]. If you have a George Forman grill you can use that too. Or even pop them in the oven.
Stay away from the obvious things like candy, fast food and caffine [that means soda too].
And please DO NOT take ANY laxatives OR diet pills you will do quite some damage to your body if you do so!
Replace your drinks with water! No more juices, no more pop, no more coffee.
If you really want to lose weight you got to stay focused.
Eat right! Cardio daily for at least 30 min! Drink LOTS of water and SLEEP plenty!
Just a few pointers here:
-If you can get a pedometer [it counts your steps]: It takes 70,000 steps to burn 1 lb of fat.
-burning 3500 calories which equals 1 lb of fat
-Use flavorings such as hot sauce, salsa, and Cajun seasonings instead of butter and creamy or sugary sauces. Besides providing lots of flavor with no fat and few calories, many of these seasonings -- the spicy ones -- turn up your digestive fires, causing your body to temporarily burn more calories.
Finally good luck to you! It's fun to lose weight. I was a strict vegan for many years, the last year I decided to say "fudge it" and gained around 20 lbs! I didn't feel good about myself, I went back to my vegetarian diet in Jan. and I've lost it all plus more and I feel fantastic [I did all the above, and still doing it, except I do have sweets here and there... ]
GOOD LUCK TO YOU :)
