please! Help me & my pup
hi, my name is larena & I'm the proud & loving mother of a 12 month old victorian bulldog! (Her name is Dutchie) Sunday night Dutchie woke up from a nap but when she got up to walk I noticed she was limping slightly. I palpated her entire leg down to her paw & checked both her pad & in between her toes. Everything is fine & she doesn't seem to be in any pain. She is still eating, playing, sleeping & going to the bathroom the same as she did. Well its now going on weds morning & she's still limping. Ive been giving her the same examination everyday & I still get no signs or sounds of pain. The only other things that I noticed is that 1) when she stretches the leg "in question" seems to "bounce back" a little bit. Or if she were to try & climb on something & used that particular leg to bear her weight it will buckle slightly. & 2) there are certain points throughout the day that she doesn't limp at all... What should I do? Is this a pulled muscle or something more serious? Im trying to get opinions on this because my family & friends say I overreact about everything with dutchie, lol, & maybe they're right.. so what do you guys suggest? I'm worried so thank you very much for taking the time (hopefully) to read & answer my questions =)

You don't mention what leg it is (front or back) but if it is a front leg it could be something like OCD of the elbow. This is where the cartilage grows too thick and can be easily damaged, once damaged there can be fissures or even pieces of floating cartilage causing the dog to have trouble extending that particular leg when in motion. Surgery can fix it but it does not cause a lot of pain in minor cases and many people choose to leave it untreated. If it is a back leg however you could be looking at the hips, not the actual legs. You will need a vet to examine the dog either way and may possibly need x-rays done. |

Larena, the best thing you can do is take your baby to her vet for a proper exam and diagnosis.

I agree with J and Shaz. It's best to get your vet to check her out. A simple x ray can determine what you are up against. You really want a proper diagnosis when it comes to things like ligaments and hips dysplasia. Where did you get your Bull from? |

I don't think you are over-reacting. Dogs don't respond to pain and injury the way we do. They can actually make a minor injury worse by trying to hide it. She could have injured the leg and is not showing just how much it hurts. Only a vet can tell exactly what is going on with it. |
