What is the best way to purchase a new car with cash?
Hello all and thank you to who ever responds to this question. I am about to purchase a new car for my wife and I am going to pay cash. The problem I have is that I have never purchased a new car (2010) and paid cash. Lets use round numbers. Lets say I am looking at a car that has a $20,000 sticker price. What should I expect to pay since I am paying cash? Do dealers look bad at the idea of someone paying cash. Should I not mention the fact that I will be paying cash until the final price is reached. Could that price change once I state that I will be paying cash. I am looking for any advice or suggestions on purchasing a new car (2010) with cash. Please let me know what to expect. I know not a ton of people have paid cash for a new car but I know there is plenty of people that have sold or know people who have sold cars for a living. I thank you very much for your time!! Never tell the dealer how you're going to pay. None of their business. Always negotiate the price of the car without discussing any of the financing. Go to Edmunds.com to get the invoice price and all the current rebates and incentives and use that to make your offer.

The only thing cash does is eliminate the possibility that you might possibly be turned down for a loan. But, keep in mind that the dealer makes money off financing, so going in waving cash can actually be a disincentive in some cases. Right now dealers are busy due to all the promotions going on. Car sales are up 40% this month.

So if they're offering free financing, take the cash discount instead. But make sure it's ON TOP of all the other discounts you plan to get.

Also, be prepared to walk out if you don't get the deal you want. Very few dealers will let a live customer walk completely out of the door.

And shop deals, pick the car you want, check with dealers out of state even online or with dealers further out, check with several dealers locally.
