    Curfew at 19
I am a 19 year old male who lives in metro atlanta at my moms house. I was always a risky kid growing up (meaning staying out all night and basically just doing things to piss my mom off) and my curfew was 11 weekdays and weekends in high school. Recent years I have changed and I do what I am expected to do under her roof on top of going to college, no slip-ups too. I've been getting into a few arguments recently from coming home around 1 a.m. and her argument is: I should still be home by 11 (she doesn't want to say curfew because I'm not doing anything wrong and I am 19) because "stuff" happens after that time of night like car jackings and muggings and what not (even though "stuff can happen anytime of day). I think I've shown that I'm responsible to be coming home at 1 a.m. and don't really see any reason to have to have a curfew of 11 weekdays and weeknights, other than I do live under her roof and her house her rules. I just want to know, is that unreasonable and what should a good curfew be at 19?

11 is reasonable. And on occasion it could be later if first agreed upon. But she is right. More stuff happens around midnight and 3 am then at other times. Most of the drunks on the road are out then too. So even if you have innocent intentions the other party does not. Stick to it and later try for more flexibility.

Yes, your mother is right. Stuff happens after 1 am. Just visit the hospital emergency rooms who are busiest between the hours of 10pm and 3am. Her house, her rules. Now, if there is something special going on, discuss the extended time out with her before leaving the house. Come to an agreement prior to leaving.

I was a police officer in down town Atlanta, so unless you go to GA Tech where the labs and study rooms are open all night, no there is nothing good happening after 1 am. Perhaps on some Friday nights or Saturday nights, you may be OK to be out later, but week nighgts, no you should be home.

At the end of the day, mom's house, mom's rules

I think midnight is reasonable, but you need to respect her rules. Are people sleeping after 11? You must take these things into consideration. Have you approached the issue with her yet? If so, what was the response?
