    Baby weight
I just had a baby February 1, I understand gaining weight is all part of the experience, but I never thought I'd end up gaining almost 50 lbs. With the new baby I don't really have time or the energy to go running, and I'm breast feeding so I can't take any pills. And I'm still not supposed to lift anything too heavy because of complications with my c-section incision. It's been over a month now, I'm going crazy cause I don't know how to get this weight off! Suggestions please!!

1 month isn't a very long time. Even my cousin who eats really healthy and exercises regularly took a while to get back down to her pre-pregnancy size. Make sure you're eating a healthy, well balanced diet. No extreme dieting, you and the baby need to be getting plenty of nutrients. Avoid junk food, soda, stuff like that. Be patient. Enjoy bonding with your new baby. And gradually work yourself back into a regular exercise routine. You can start with short walks with the baby, around the block, or maybe if the grocery store is close enough walk there. Before you know it, you'll be running everywhere trying to keep up with your toddler.

It took nine months to put that weight on, it won't come off overnight. Give yourself a break, you've got a baby to look after. No-one expects you to look like a cover model.

Breastfeeding is a great way to shift excess weight, just make sure your kitchen is stocked with the sort of fresh healthy food that will help you. Been there, done that, and know the lure of the biscuit bin!

But I did lose 50lb while breastfeeding, so it can be done.

Pills do not help you lose weight. Even the ones that have science behind them are not worth the hassle. For instance, double blind placebo controlled studies of Xenical (the double strength prescription version of Alli) found that dieters who took it lose an average of 6lb more IN A YEAR than the control group. That's a year of taking an expensive drug with nasty side-effects for a six pound loss. You'd do that in a month of breastfeeding,
