    Street lighting, neutral, cut
What does the underground neutral cable do in an aerial fed street lighting?
What are the results of it being cut?

    What does this mean?

Underground cable in an aerial street lighting?

A neutral is a return conductor, if cut, the light should not operate.

Please explain your situation, why the questiion?

The street lights are aerial, the neutral is underground. I was recently told that if the neutral were cut, let' say during digging, that it would not be a problem. That's what prompted the question.

If it is a true neutral, and the light needs the neutral to operate, then cutting the neutral should prevent the light from operating.

    It's not a neutral, it's a ground.
