    My origanal remote is broken bought a new universal one called total control it changes the volume and channels but I can't get it to go to the menu to tune in other channels

    It may not have that capability. You might have to do it from the set itself.

    [no it has no menu buttons on the set only the channel/volume and play and forward and rewind

    Are you sure? According to the manual I downloaded and looked at it is right on the front.
