    Will a hps bulb work with the same ballast that metal halide work with
    I have a hps light with ballast 400w.can I use a 400w metal halide bulb

    No, HPS has a starting aid built in, and the ballast is wound a bit differently.

    HID lamps and ballasts have an ANSI code that must match.
