Septic tank in basements
Hi massplumbers,
I'm constructing a septic tank that doudles as a pit latrine, am now not certain of the depth at which to put the inlet and outlet pipes and also a chamber for routine emptying and security checks, pliz advise. Thanks. |

I'm not Mass plumber but my code book,( Standard Plumbing Code) doesn't prohibit such a installation. We install ejector pits in the basement don't we? Code calls for two manholes to be brought up to grade if the tank's installed under cement or black top. Here's a link that might help; http://www.eco-nomic.com/septic.htm More questions? I moved into my house a year ago and was told that I had a septic tank. My water bill confirms it, but I can't seem to find it. There are no clean outs or covered concrete pipes. It is not on my plat either. How can I find it? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance!
Every time we get a heavy rain I get water coming from the leach bed back into the septic tank. Is there a check valve that can be installed to prevent this from happening or any other suggestions? I have been told that a curtain drain would help, but that is costly.

Can you put a septic tank in soil that has a high clay content? Would it be better to replace the clay with sandy soil?
