    Relocate service panel
Existing knife shut-off and meter are on pole 20 feet away and has been double tapped to service 2 different panels inside. I need to hang a new 200A panel on outside and tie the furthest panel in as a sub panel. What size wire, what type of wire and what conduit will work? For instance, can I use a 1 1/2" pvc conduit from the knife shut-off with a shield or just all galvanized?

    Bob,

What is the current level of service you have now?

I ask you to bare with me on this I'm fairly new at Supply Side Electricity.

Is your pole supplying an Overhead Feeds to your residence or Lateral (underground) Feeds?

You have one feed to a panel in your residence and a second feed also in your residence. I suspect that right there you have a very serious code violation. According to the NEC there can only be one Service Entry Point for your Power Company feed line. Please reference NEC code 230.1.

I would also like to understand your intended plan.

You want to modify the current condition so that you will now have one supply feeding two main service panels in the same building. One of the current main service panels will be converted to a sup panel off the new 200 amp service you are going to get.

Again, to the best of my knowledge this violates the NEC. I suspect that you should use only one Main Service panel and then use two sub panels.

For example, if there is a fire and the firemen go to disconnect the power being fed to the building as you have it now, they have to do the disconnect at the blade switch.

If the shut the panel down and not realize there are two panels in the same building, someone could get very dead.

    Just my concern.
