    Permanently remove drain fittings
I am converting a bathroom to a closet and want to remove the shower and toilet drain fittings, fill the drain pipes with cement and install a wood floor.
What is the best way to remove the fittings so they a flush with the cement slab floor?

Simply break the cast iron flange and brass shower drain out with a hammer and beat the cast iron to floor level. Before you fill the pipes with cement jam a bunch of rags down the pipes to contain the cement so it doesn't go into your drainage system. Good luck , Tom

Thanks for the "bash it with a hammer" advice. It worked fine for the shower drain, but on the toilet flange, all I succeeded in doing was to break off the outer lip of the flange. The thick part around the vertical riser is still there and is above floor level. Should I try to pry it up and off or just keep bashing?
