    Credit cards and judgments
Discover says I owe them $14,000. I stopped making monthly payments for 6 months because I had some medical issues. When I called them and tried to settle, they would not accept my offer, (which was fairly low). They have added on many fees. Now they have turned it over to some attorneys who are threatening a judgment. I have heard that 80% of credit card judgments are never granted. Is that true?

I also plan to file a motion to vacate the judgment, if they do in fact file. I want to how risky it is to let them go ahead.

They won't take the settlement I've offered, they want me to make $600/month payments which I cannot afford. But I do own a house, and my husband and I have some money in an IRA. The Discover account was in both of our names. My husband is permanently disabled and gets SSI.

Am I trying to get out from under this debt, yes! I paid them $300 for years and years, and I got no where, all they took was my interest. They are thieves. I have paid them enough. Does anyone have any valid advice re judgments for me?

How can you say they are thieves? You used their services when you charged things and now they want their money. They could care less that you had medical issues, they just want their money. If you quit making payments then the interest and penalites will grow. If you go to court and they prove you owe the money then yes most likely a judgement will be given.Your husband's money from ssI will be safe from garnishment but he will have to prove that his money is from ssi. Depending on the state you live in they could put a lien on your property. I know of someone that owed discover only $2000.00 and they got a judgement against him. So try to figure out a way to pay this
