    Fathers rights s.georgia
My name is Kenny, I was engaged to be married to this girl and we were expecting a child. In March of 2009 she told me that she had a misscairage and broke off the engagement. It turns out that she lied and had the baby in August but she told me the kid was not mine. I have talked to the people she works for and they have told me the kid was mine. She will not have anything to do with me and still has not aknowleged that the baby is mine. I cannot afford an attorney and legal aid will not help me. I seriously need help establishing paternity but I have not the resources or the money to do so. Please contact me at PERSONAL INFO REMOVED if you can help me thank you

Kenny, it isn't prudent for you to give out personal contact information on this forum. This is an open site, not designed to establish personal, one-on-one contact. However, to answer your question, if you believe there's a possibility that the child is yours, you can petition your local family court for an adjudication of paternity. This can be done pro se and would not be overly costly ; a few hundred dollars at most. The court will order a DNA test which will prove or disprove paternity. If you are proven to be the father, the court will enter an order for child support and you can petition for custody, visitation, etc. This can probably be included in your request for an adjudication of paternity but may have to be done in a separate motion. You might not necessarily get everything you ask for but the court will guard your rights (and hers) in accordance with Georgia law. Alternatively, you can employ a "wait-and-see" tactic and wait for her to initiate some sort of legal action. While this might delay getting the results you seek, it will probably be less costly to you. If the mother at any time applies for public assistance, she will be required to name a father and have him tested for paternity so that an order for child support can be entered. Similarly, if she decides to pursue child support on her own, that'll essentially force her to "come clean" and positively identify the father.
