    Scarf making
I would really like to make a scarf's for my friends/family and myself but I have no clue about what size knitting needle to use could anyone tell me the best size? Also I'm not to sure what wool/yarn would be best to use I would like the scarf to be soft but warm, and could any one recommend a good webiste to buy this from in bulk? Every store I have been in says the size needle depends on what wool you are using and that the wool depends on what pattern and they can't just give me a helpful answer as I don't need to use a pattern to make a scarf (lol) thanks you for your any help given xx:)xx

Well, the sites are correct. The needles really do depend o the yarn. And the yarn on the pattern. You said you don't need to use a pattern (I don't either, I make my own up) but you still need to have an idea of what you want before you start. Are you just going to so a garter knit or a stock and knit stitch for the entire thing? Or are you planning on doing any other stitches? I can help you get some ideas for yarn and needles but I'd hate to suggest something that won't work for what you want to do

Also, are the scarves for men or women? Or both? And do you want them all identical?

    Jo-Ann Sensations Beautiful Yarn : yarn : knit & crochet : Shop | Joann.com
This yarn is nice and soft. I would do it on size 12 needles, even though it recommends 10.5. I usually like to use larger needles than what's recommended.

    Patons Melody Yarn : yarn : knit & crochet : Shop | Joann.com
I also love this yarn. Again, I'd use size 13 needles instead.

    Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Yarn : yarn : knit & crochet : Shop | Joann.com
These yarns are also nice and soft. You'd need smaller needles than the ones above. I like to use 11 needles for this one.

These are just some of my favorite yarns. It's really best if you can go to a store with yarn (joanns or michael's usually have really good selections. Or if there's a more local yarn shop, they're usually more helpful). And I'd recommend looking for thicker yarns, and using larger needles. They'll knit up faster and still look nice with the simple stitches.
